| Byrne goes a long way to help local school’s bid |

Liam Byrne MP today presented a cheque for £500 to Hodge Hill Girls School. The MP for Hodge Hill raised the money by running the Stratford half marathon earlier this year. The money will go towards the school’s fund for its bid for specialist school status. The school’s GCSE results have increased by 20% in the last five years and with specialist status will be able to continue this progress even further.

Liam tells EU and Africa better cooperation needed on immigration |
Liam Byrne MP yesterday told EU and African nations that they need to work together better to tackle illegal immigration.
The Home Office minister and MP for Hodge Hill was speaking at the first ever pan-Africa-EU conference in Libya to talk about aid and immigration.

| Byrne backs measure to support parents and strengthen Hodge Hill community |
Liam Byrne MP today praised the announcement from the Home Secretary that Birmingham City Council will be offered funding to help parents.
A share of the £4 million boost in Home Office funding will be made available by the government’s Respect Task Force to pay for trained parenting experts who will support parents concerned that their families are showing signs of anti-social behaviour.

| Liam promises SureStart at Children’s Centre opening in Ward End |
Liam Byrne MP today performed the official opening of the SureStart funded Children’s Centre in Ward End. The centre, which is attached to Ward End Primary School, is for anybody with an interest in families with young children. It provides activities, services, courses and information from early education and day care for children to breastfeeding workshops and advice on entering the workforce for parents.

| Firm but fair: Liam to tackle immigration abuse |
Hodge Hill's MP is working on a Border and Immigration Bill to be brought before parliament in its new session. The news was announced in the Queen’s Speech in the House of Lords on Wednesday. Although full details of the bill have not yet been announced, the Hodge Hill MP has said that it will include tougher measures to police Britain’s borders, tackle immigration crime and protect the public.

Byrne call to Hodge Hill veterans |
Liam Byrne MP today invited more local people who served in HM Armed Forces to come forward and claim a Veterans Badge.
The lapel badge is available to the men and women who served before and/or during World War II and also those who enlisted before 31 December 1959.
