SHARD END CRESCENT PLANS CLOSE TO BEING UNVEILED

Above: The Shard End Labour team, and the current shops at Shard End

Plans for a new Shard End Crescent shopping centre are to be revealed shortly. Following public consultation last year your Labour team have been finalising plans with consultants for a modern shopping centre we can all be proud of.

The new centre will be an improvement for the whole area providing local shops and high quality housing.

Cllr Margaret Byrne said

‘It’s crucial that when these plans are revealed they have the backing of local people and that the outcome of this process is the best option for the area. We must make sure that we get it right for the people of Shard End.’

A meeting for local residents is being arranged for mid March—so watch this space!

Did you know you can watch Parliament Live online for free?

Whether it's to watch Liam speaking on health matters, or to listen to debates about education reform, you can find it online at www.parliamentlive.tv.

Why not watch this week's PMQs to see Cameron's flip flops exposed by the PM.

LIAM & PROGRESS TEAM UP TO TALK 'NEXT STEPS FOR LABOUR'

Liam has co-written a new pamphlet published by the thinktank Progress about how Labour should best address the election of David Cameron.

In short, Liam suggests that any strategy must be two fold. First, the party must not panic - but instead stick to the centre ground and expose the flip flops and failed policies that Cameron wrote, but now seems shy about delivering to the British people.

Second, Labour must offer a new vision of the state as empowering individuals through public services, paid for through a fair funded tax system.

The pamphlet has been covered by both the Guardian and the Observer, and can be read online. You can also download a copy by clicking on the magazine cover above.

LIB DEM - TORY LEADERS LET BIRMINGHAM DOWN AGAIN

This mornings Birmingham Post reports that Tory Council Leader Mike Whitby and Liberal Democrat Paul Tilsley pulled out of a key city regen meeting at the last minute.

The Post goes on to say that relations between the Tory/Lib Dem council leaders and the business community is at an all time low, and suggests 'If Whitby and Tilsley can't stand the heat, they should get out of the kitchen'.

It was left to a passionate and determined Labour Group leader Albert Bore to argue the case for the people of Birmingham, urging the council not to be complacent with the future of the city.

You can read the whole article by clicking here.

Above: Sir Albert Bore speaking at the opening of Birmingham's Bull Ring. A fantastic regeneration project brought to life through an imaginative and determined Labour leadership being in power in Birmingham.
