FIREWORKS: WHAT ARE THE GOVERNMENT DOING TO PROTECT YOU FROM NUISANCE USE?

WHAT POWERS DO THE POLICE HAVE?

In recent years residents have contacted their local MPs about the nuisance caused by fireworks. This nuisance includes injuries caused by misuse, particularly among young teenagers, general public nuisance that fireworks can cause, and the effect they have on domestic animals.

Many complaints concentrate on the problem of fireworks being set-off at any time of the day and night. It is against this background that the new Fireworks Act 2003 was brought into force. It was in recognition of the fact that other existing legislation was inadequate to deal with the increasing anti-social use of fireworks. In introducing new legislation the Government has attempted to strike a balance between freedom of use, and prevention of misuse.

IS HAVING A WARM & COMFORTABLE HOME A GIMMICK?

THE TORIES & LIB DEMS THINK SO!!

ASK YOUR LOCAL LIB DEM PARTY WHY THEY OPPOSE MEASURES TO HELP PENSIONERS.

For those homeowners in receipt of benefits such as Income Support, Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, Job Seekers Allowance (Income-based), and Pension Credit, the Government funded Warm Front delivers grants of up to £2,700, or £4,000 where oil central heating is repaired or restored, to ensure that the most vulnerable people in our society have a warm and comfortable home.

In Hodge Hill alone 2288 households have benefited from this scheme.

You can find out more about the scheme by ringing the help line on 0800 316 6014, or click here for an information sheet on the scheme put together by Liam.

NEARLY 10,000 HODGE HILL PENSIONERS BENEFIT FROM LABOUR'S PENSION CREDIT

LIB DEMS & TORIES OPPOSED FROM DAY 1

When Labour came to power in 1997, many pensioners were living on just £69 a week. Since 1997, the basic state pension has risen in real terms by 7% to £82, approximately 60% of the poverty level, while pension credits further guarantee pensioners an income of £109.75.

Figures revealed earlier this year show that 5,830 households, and 9,865 Hodge Hill residents currently benefit from the Pension Credit. Both the Tories and Lib Dems opposed the pension credit when it was introduced by the Chancellor, Gordon Brown.
