Liam celebrates jobs and homes boost for Hodge Hill

Liam Byrne today called on local regeneration chiefs to back his bid for big new investment in jobs and homes in Hodge Hill.

The move comes a month after the city confirmed it would mark Hodge Hill as top of the list for extra jobs and homes over the next four years.

The announcement follows a long campaign by the Hodge Hill MP called Hodge Hill 2020, in which Mr Byrne bought together a pioneering government and district sponsored programme to create a community-rooted vision for the future of the district.

A high level planning group then turned the conversations with residents into four exciting proposals for clusters that would make Hodge Hill a destination of choice; in housing, in retail, as a sports village, and in advanced engineering.

Now in the Regional Spatial Strategy landed in December the city has agreed that the ‘Eastern Corridor’ in which Hodge Hill is centre should be the top priority.

Liam said

"I am delighted that the inequalities in our area have been recognised, we have identified that heavy investment in infrastructure is critical to the regeneration of Hodge Hill.

"Our residents need homes fit for the 21st century."

Liam also spoke of the importance of more jobs in the area:

"We have the fourth highest levels of unemployment in the country, what we need is local investment for local jobs."
