Come and claim your entitlements says Liam Byrne MP

Liam Byrne MP today invited Hodge Hill residents to next Friday’s Benefit Entitlement Day in Ward End.

The event, being staged between 11am and 3pm at Ward End Asian Elders Centre on Sladefield Road, will allow local people to drop in and receive free checks that they are receiving all the government benefits and local services they are entitled to.

Liam said:

“There are too many benefits that are left unclaimed and local services that people don’t know about and I want to make sure that everyone in Hodge Hill is getting what they are entitled to.”

Liam met with Mr Gul Nawaz, committee member of Ward End Asian Elders, and Ravi Kumar of eaga plc, who are helping stage the event, to announce that the Government’s Warm Front scheme has assisted 5698 households in Hodge Hill to the tune of almost £6 million.

Warm Front is the Government's main grant-funded programme for tackling fuel poverty and is targeted at vulnerable households, particularly those with children under 4 and adults over 60, helping them to cut their energy bills.

Liam added:

“We’ve got a number of organisations at the event who will be there to speak to. And I’ll also be around for the day if there’s anything I can help people out with – we really want to see as many people as possible come and claim their entitlements.”

Also participating in the event will be the Pensions Service and West Midlands Fire Service amongst other organisations.

• The event is to be held at: Ward End Asian Elders Centre,
110 Sladefield Road, Ward End, B8 2SX. Date: Friday 8th June.
Time: 11am – 3pm.
