Byrne backs Bromford demands in meeting with health chiefs

Liam Byrne MP has presented a blunt message to get a move on from Bromford residents to local health chiefs and city planners.

The Hodge Hill MP recently demanded monthly meetings with City Council chiefs and Birmingham East and North Primary Care Trust as well as regular updates on progress towards building four new health centres in the area, after significant-foot dragging.

Having written to residents for their views on healthcare facilities, Liam was able to take their replies to the meeting at Waterlinks House and demand faster action for a new health centre for the Bromford.

Liam said:

“Hodge Hill has some of the worse health outcomes in the country. It’s just not acceptable that people are getting ill and dying whilst officials sit around a table talking. This is why I am insisting that people’s views are listened to and that these meetings take place regularly with all the necessary action followed up.”

He added:

“To put it simply, the Bromford is one of a number of locations round here that need a world class, cutting edge health facility. The significant difference this will make to people’s wellbeing is obvious but I also hope that new health centres will contribute to the wider regeneration of the area.”

Liam is also pushing for health centres in Shard End near the Prince of Wales building and on the derelict land adjacent to the old Leyland Club in Washwood Heath. A site on Yardley Green Road in Bordesley Green has also been identified.
